Generic Ettin Head

The Generic Ettin Head is a set of 3D models of an Ettin head, based on the look of the Creatures 2 and Creatures 3 Ettins. It was created with Blender 2.43 and should also work with any newer version of Blender.

The purpose of this resource was to provide new modelers with a basis to create their own Ettin breeds. Modify the models however you like, then render it and use the renders to create head sprites for your very own Ettin breed.

The .zip contains one file, called "generic_ettin_head.blend". With just the click of a button you can open and close the eyes, and toggle between all expressions, angles and rotations. The only time consuming part is modifying the head to give the Ettin your own design touches, and rendering the head once you're finished.

How it works:

  • Each expression uses a separate, slightly different model. The hair, which doesn't change between expressions, has only one model.
  • All models use the same texture. There are no UV maps; if you want your breed to be UV mapped, you will have to add that to the models.
  • Each expression is located on a separate layer. The head models (Normal, Happy, Sad, Angry, Scared and Tired) can be found on the first six layers.
  • For each expression there is a set of eyelids for when the eyes are closed, which can be found on the layer below the corresponding head model. Thus to close the eyes, simply turn both layers "on". To open the eyes, turn the layer with the eyelids "off" again.
  • The heads are animated. On each frame the heads will snap to the next direction and rotation in the standard sequence seen in C3/DS sprites. You can move from one frame to the next easily using the left and right arrows on your keyboard.
